Vernal City Encourages Residents To Hold Off On Watering

Vernal City is encouraging all to hold off on watering this spring. In partnership with the Central Utah Water Conservancy District, they shared the following on Monday: “It’s tempting to start watering your lawn as soon as spring air temperatures begin to warm. Grass, however, does not need supplemental water until later in the season when soil moisture levels decrease. Depending on the weather, this could be as late as the end of May or beginning of June, with just a few spot waterings when needed. Delaying lawn irrigation in the spring can save thousands of gallons of water and encourages roots to move deeper into the soil. Deeper root systems are tougher and can withstand hot summer temperatures better than roots near the surface. Start a new spring challenge this year by seeing how long you can wait before watering your lawn!” So the challenge has been issued: How long can you wait before watering this spring?
