The Ute Indian Tribe Business Committee hosted a meeting between the Large Treaty Tribes Coalition earlier this month with the meeting taking place in Fort Hall, Idaho. According to the Ute Business Committee news release shared on August 19th, the August 7th meeting included leaders from the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, Eastern Shoshone Tribe, Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Indian Reservation, the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe, Oglala Sioux Tribe, and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. The leaders discussed issues in the proposed federal legislation of the FY27 National Defense Authorization, proposed changes to the National Historic Preservation Act Section 106, the idea of forming a tribal think tank as a resource for all federally-recognized tribal nations, and more. The Ute Business Committee news release stated, “The tribal leaders expressed a commitment to advancing the interests of each of their own Tribes and their members while also unifying on issues where there is common ground amongst the large treaty Tribes.”
