Utah State University announced on Thursday the completion of phase two of a campus solar expansion project, with the largest installation located on the USU Uintah Basin campus in Vernal. The Uintah Basin Campus project was funded with support from Rocky Mountain Power and includes a 449 kilowatt ground-mounted system and a 500 kilowatt-hour battery that will store energy for use by the campus. It will also be available for Rocky Mountain Power to dispatch from when needed. “Projects like this save the university money while reducing the environmental impact of our operations,” shares Zac Cook, associate director of utilities and energy management at USU. “Adding battery storage in Vernal helps us get even more value from that clean energy and gives us experience we can carry to future projects across the state.” A ribbon cutting will be held at the Bingham Entrepreneurship and Energy Research Center on the Uintah Basin Campus on October 27th at 3pm to celebrate the solar and battery project and other recent renovations at the Bingham Research Center.
