Flaming Gorge is once again set up to provide relief downstream to Lake Powell. While the Bureau of Reclamation has yet to make the official announcement, water stakeholders are reporting being told that releases from Flaming Gorge will likely near or exceed 1 million acre feet over the coming months, amounting to around a third of the reservoir’s capacity. The most recent report from the Bureau of Reclamation is dated April 6th and states that the Flaming Gorge pool elevation is 6,022 feet, which amounts to 82 percent of the reservoir’s live storage capacity. The report also states that inflow to the reservoir over the next three months is forecast to be below average. An opportunity to give public feedback on proposed releases is happening next week. The next Flaming Gorge Working Group meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, at noon. Participants can attend the meeting either in person or virtually. The in-person session will take place at the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources in Vernal. The Flaming Gorge Working Group is an open public forum for information exchange between Reclamation and the stakeholders of Flaming Gorge Dam. The public is encouraged to attend and comment on the operations and plans presented by Reclamation at these meetings.
