A traffic stop eventually led to arrest in Uintah County on Friday. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, the driver failed to pull over when the officer activated the overhead emergency lights and eventually sirens, and instead just continued to drive around at speeds near the speed limit and did not stop until he turned onto a road that was blocked by assisting deputies and officers. The driver, identified as 64-year-old Jeffrie Lynn Shipman, was taken into custody at gunpoint. He complied with commands to lie face down on the roadway. Mr. Shipman was known to officers from previous encounters. His vehicle was inventoried and state taxed for felony evading. During booking at the Uintah County Jail, corrections deputies observed a suspected methamphetamine pipe fall from Mr. Shipman’s groin area. The glass pipe contained suspected methamphetamine residue. Mr. Shipman admitted to having methamphetamine packages in his groin area, and two baggies of suspected methamphetamine were retrieved from between his buttocks and groin area in a secure restroom. A records check revealed Mr. Shipman’s driver’s license was suspended, and he had an outstanding warrant from 8th District Court with no bail amount. His criminal history showed numerous previous drug charges, elevating the current possession of methamphetamine to a 3rd-degree felony under Utah Code.
