For immediate release from the Uintah County Sheriff's Office - October 17, 2026
On October 16, 2026, the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of an unlawful checkpoint/roadblock on Seep Ridge Road near Turkey Tracks, a Uintah County road. The checkpoint was being conducted by Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement and Ute Tribe Fish and Game officers. Deputies from Uintah County responded to the checkpoint and spoke to BIA and Ute Tribe Fish and Game officers. After speaking with the agencies conducting the checkpoint, it was determined that Utah statute was not followed in obtaining authorization for the checkpoint and it was immediately terminated. The sheriff’s office is asking for anyone that was stopped, detained, or had property taken at this or any previous checkpoints at this location, and is willing to speak with our deputies, please contact our office at 435-789-2511 or email at sheriffrecords@uintah.utah.gov.
