Congratulations are in order for a Union High School student who won big at the state
InvestNest competition. InvestNest is a Shark Tank meets American Idol competition for
high school students who participate with CAP Studies. Union High School’s Kyson
Powell won 1st place at the state InvestNest competition for his business ‘He Speaks’
which is a drop-shipping business using the Shopify E-commerce platform. The award
announcement explains that Kyson made it through 3 InvestNest rounds at the school
district level. Round 2 took 11 contestants down to 7 and Round 3 awarded prizes to the
top 3 businesses. Kyson went to the America First Credit Union state contest where he
competed against 6 1st place winners from Utah schools where he won 1st place and was
awarded $12,500 dollars. “I am a lifelong entrepreneur with a knack for starting
businesses that make a splash,” shares Kyson Powell. “From my early days owning a
gumball machine route at age 10 to dealing in sports cards and running a smoothie shack,
I’ve always been on the lookout for the next big thing.” Michael North, the Duchesne
County School District CAPS advisor, has expressed how proud he is of all their
entrepreneurship contestants. “They have great ideas and have worked through the
difficulties of taking their idea to implementation of selling their products and services,”
says North. “We have only been a part of this competition for 2 years and we have a 2nd
and now a 1st place at State. That is saying something.” Congratulations to Kyson Powell
on his win!
