Uintah School District’s network became the target of a cyberattack early Wednesday morning. According to the initial District announcement, the District disabled the network in response to the attack and the Technology Department has been working to resolve the issue. No classes have been cancelled although teachers had to create alternate plans for Wednesday’s instruction. The final District announcement on Wednesday stated that “through its cyber insurance provider, the district secured third-party technical support…to help with the process. Classes [are being] held Thursday. Teachers at the elementary schools, middle schools, and the high school have been asked to prepare lessons that don’t rely on network connectivity. Ashley Valley Education Center and Uintah Online students should work from home [on Thursday].” As of Wednesday’s last update, there was still no evidence that student data had been compromised. “The District does not store credit card information on its network. Payments for school meals and school fees are processed by a third-party company that isn’t impacted by the network outage.”
