Uintah Recreation Special Service District Director Robin O’Driscoll made a presentation on the health of the rec district during the city/county meeting on Monday. The rec district was created in 1996 and opened the Uintah Community Center in 2008. In the last few years, the district has constructed a major overhaul to the Dinoland Golf Course, added a restroom to Independence Park and made updates to other parks. The debt obligations for the rec district are the community center and the upgrades to the baseball facilities. The district is operating at 60 percent less mineral lease funding since 2014, shared O’Driscoll, but have been able to utilize carry over money that had been set aside for capital projects that are now on hold. “If all goes well we can stay where we are at this year and still have over a million dollars in carry over and we have emergency funds we have not touched yet,” said O’Driscoll. If needed, the emergency funds would carry the rec district through 2021 but thankfully there is a slight upward trend on mineral lease funds this year. “We are cautiously optimistic,” shared O’Driscoll. “We’ll keep looking outside the box.”
