Uintah County Burn Window Now Open

by | Mar 31, 2022 | News | 0 comments

Wednesday was the first day for the Spring Burn Window for Uintah County and Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond has some important information for those who plan to utilize this time for burning. First of all, it is important to know that if you live in city limits you need a burn permit. Burn permits are free but are required for those burning within city limits. The application is available on www.UintahFire.com. After finishing the application you will receive a burn permit number. If you need help with this, call the Fire District at 435-781-6755. Once you have a burn permit number, call Central Dispatch at 435-789-4222 and report that you will be burning and give them the permit number and your information. That way if someone reports seeing smoke or fire Central Dispatch will already know, saving the fire department from responding. Raymond emphasized that those who do not follow the rules and have the fire department respond unnecessarily can be held liable, especially repeat offenders. Those who live outside of city limits do not need a permit but do still need to call Dispatch. The burn is only for natural vegetation, not for anything man made. Some tips to keep in mind are to keep the burn away from buildings and power poles. Keep a water supply on site. Stay with the fire the entire time and remember that the wind always picks up in the afternoon.
