As of 7am this morning, US-191 in Indian Canyon has been reduced to one-lane with alternating traffic between milepost 264.1 and 264.8. UDOT wants all travelers of Indian Canyon to know that concrete barriers have been installed in the road to separate the travel lane from the work zone. The lane is restricted to 12 feet wide. Temporary traffic signals are in place to guide vehicles through the work zone at all times, including nights and weekends. “The concrete barriers and traffic signals will be in place 24/7 and wait times at the signal may reach up to 20 minutes,” shares UDOT. “During active work hours, total delay time through the canyon could reach up to 30 minutes as there may be multiple active work zones.” In the one-lane section, “the area is narrow, and barriers are placed down the center of the road, so vehicles cannot pass each other within the closure. Signals operate on a timed cycle, 24/7. If the light is red, traffic may still be traveling through the work zone from the opposite direction. If the light turns red as you approach, please stop. Running a red light can cause crashes and lead to longer delays while traffic clears.” The closure is expected to be in place for 2 to 3 weeks, or until crews have finished removing rock from the hillside.
