Truck Driver Charged After Allegedly Stabbing Man In Rest-Area Bathroom

A truck driver who allegedly stabbed a man 17 times in an I-80 rest-area bathroom near Rock Springs before fleeing on I-80 has been charged with attempted 1st Degree Murder. Cowboy State Daily reports that 45-year-old Andrew Kris Bzdak was brought into police custody less than 90 minutes after the first 9-1-1 call in the early morning hours of September 13th. A family at the rest area heard the attack and saw a man run from the rest-area bathroom and flee in his semi-truck. They were able to photograph identifying information of the truck and trailer to report it. The man who was attacked called Dispatch saying he had been stabbed multiple times and was badly injured. Just minutes later, Dispatch received the call from the family who saw the suspect fleeing. The stabbing victim made his way outside before collapsing, being cared for by emergency response, and airlifted to a Casper hospital. In the meantime, officers were in pursuit of the suspect traveling east on I-80 when a trooper spotted the suspect’s semi west of Rawlins around 5am and Bzdak complied with troopers and was detained. The charge of Attempted 1st Degree Murder was filed this week and carries the possibility of life in prison under Wyoming law. The victim told police he was attacked from behind without warning and that he did not know the attacker.
