TriCounty Health: Give Em’ Health with Immunizations

Immunizing infants and children has been a hot topic for at least the last decade and TriCounty Health Department is making their pro-vaccination message crystal clear. According to TriCounty Health Nursing Director Nicole Smith, the Basin area has a pretty good immunization rate at 70 percent. The statewide average is at 80 percent. Vaccines have proven to be safe, says Smith. “Many studies have been done with over 14 million people” and the science has shown vaccines to be safe and effective. Smith also addresses the fear that there is a link between autism and vaccinations. “It has been proven time and again that there is no link,” shares Smith, who urges all Basin families to vaccinate their children. TriCounty Health is also encouraging pregnant mothers in their third trimester of each pregnancy to receive the Tdap which protects against whooping cough.
