There is plenty of positive buzz going around about the Terra Academy, the Vernal charter school in its second year. The school has introduced an Associate’s Degree track for secondary students but that’s not all. The school is also helping to fund the three courses the students will need to finish up the Associate’s Degree for this year. According to school Director Cassie Hays, Terra is working to also include a General Education College-Bound track as well as a Technical College track. In addition to these exciting offerings in the works, the school is enjoying the validation of positive test scores. The NWEA formative testing results show that Terra students are at or above grade level in all subjects for all grade levels tested from Kindergarten to 11th grade. The school’s DIBELS tests measuring reading for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades show plenty of growth in the students. Hays says the first grade scores were a little low but there was a huge 26% growth from fall to winter.
