An altercation in Vernal on Friday resulted in the arrest of the suspect. Vernal PD shared the following: On June 26th, Vernal Police Officers were dispatched to 81 North 600 West regarding a reported stabbing. Investigation at the scene determined that a verbal altercation had taken place between a local resident and two individuals. During the initial contact, it was determined that one of the individuals had a severe laceration as the result of the altercation. The victim was transported to the Ashley Regional Medical Center Emergency Room and subsequently transferred to a Salt Lake area hospital for further treatment. The suspect in the altercation was identified as 56-year-old Vernal resident Virgil Leon Carmickle. As a result of the investigation, Carmickle was booked into the Uintah County Jail for Attempted Homicide, Attempted Aggravated Assault, and Intoxication.
