Some Advice During Sick Season and When to Have Kids Stay Home

The cold and flu season is upon us and it is everyone’s job to slow the spread of illness. Uintah Basin Healthcare shared this month that cases of Influenza in the hospital, community, and around the state are on the rise and they suggest not bringing any children under the age of 14 to the hospital for any reason other than to access medical care. Protect yourself by avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth; covering your sneeze and cough with a tissue or sleeve; washing hands often with soap and water; staying home if sick; avoiding contact with those that are sick; and getting the flu vaccine.  A general guideline for parents wondering when to keep their kids home from school is if your child has any fever today they should not be at school the next day. If you have to give your child Tylenol or Motrin in the morning “to get them through the day” do not send them to school. Certainly do not send your kids if there was vomiting and/or diarrhea the day before. Be considerate of others and do not send sick kids, those recovering from illness, or feverish kids to school.
