Utah Senator Mike Lee made time for a radio interview with Newstalk KVEL this week and emphasized that he and his staff are doing everything they can to see the Uinta Basin Railway approved. Lee shared that they recently met with the U.S. Forest Service, pressing for a timeline of approving the railway project, saying that the Forest Service is dragging their feet on the final approval needed. Referring to Russia’s war on Ukraine, Lee emphasized that the U.S. needs now more than ever the heavy crude oil from the Basin as it is a unique component needed in many refinery operations. “We need this oil now,” stated Lee, who emphasized that rather than get it from our enemies, the U.S. should be pulling it from northeastern Utah and the Uinta Basin Railway project needs approved and developed as soon as possible to more effectively transport it.
