Senator Curtis Wildfire Emissions Prevention Bill Passes Committee

Senator John Curtis shared a message on Wednesday, applauding the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee’s unanimous passage of the Wildfire Emissions Prevention Act. Senator Curtis is leading the way on this bill which is bipartisan legislation to streamline states’ use of prescribed fires to prevent wildfire emissions, protect ecosystems and wildlife habitats, and make American forests and communities safer, healthier, and cleaner. “[The] unanimous approval by the Committee brings us one step closer to addressing the glaring irony in our current environmental regulations: They deter prescribed burns due to pollution concerns, practically guaranteeing catastrophic wildfires that emit far more carbon than proactive management ever would,” shares Senator Curtis. In his comments before the Committee, Senator Curtis said that in Utah and across the West, wildfire season has increasingly become a year-round challenge and that this year, an astonishing half-million acres have burned.
