Redistricting is underway in Utah and the fear is that it will likely harm rural Utah by reducing representation. An opportunity to make rural Uintah Basin voices heard is coming up this Friday. The Utah Independent Redistricting Commission is holding a public meeting in Roosevelt on September 24th. The Commission shares, “As the redistricting process only occurs once every 10 years, it is crucial for Utahns to participate in the process – redistricting impacts everything from congressional districts and school boards to community growth.” The Commission is in charge of creating the maps that the Utah State Legislature will then consider. Those planning to participate are encouraged to explore the 2020 census data, submit formal comments and ideas on the suggested draft maps, and even create their own maps. The meeting is being held at Roosevelt City Hall September 24th from 6 to 8pm.
