Last week’s Vernal Chamber Luncheon included a presentation by Uintah School District Superintendent Mark Dockins and Business Administrator Scott Ruppe regarding Proposition 4 that will be on the November election ballot. Superintendent Dockins summarized the goals of the Proposition, emphasizing that it will lower taxes and increase teacher wages to make the district more competitive in hiring new teachers while increasing student safety. Dockins commended Mr. Ruppe for his talent in developing the plan for Proposition 4 that offers solutions to issues facing the district. During Mr. Ruppe’s presentation, he explained that after three years the board can increase the capital levy if necessary to cover capital expenses through the “Truth in Taxation” process but that from what they currently foresee, the current plan is sustainable beyond the three years. Discussion towards the end of the meeting became rather heated with comments of opposition from a few people in attendance. Information including Frequently Asked Questions on Proposition 4 is available at www.uintah.net and on the Uintah School District Facebook page. Tomorrow a news story will run on Evans Family Media stations sharing points made by current school board members who oppose Proposition 4.
