Prescribed Burns Scheduled In Vernal And Flaming Gorge Ranger Districts

Ashley National Forest has announced that the Vernal and Flaming Gorge Ranger Districts are planning fall prescribed fires. Broadcast burns are planned for Greendale Junction, Red Canyon, and Dowd Mountain; and pile burns are planned for Red Cloud Loop and Deer Lodge. “Forest Service officials estimate this work may continue through the end of the year, as conditions allow,” shares the announcement. “Certified prescribed fire specialists use prescribed fires to help remove excess vegetation, reduce wildfire risk, improve habitat, enhance watershed health, and restore fire-adapted ecosystems.” Firefighters remain on scene and patrol afterwards. Smoke may be visible but the Forest Service works closely with air quality specialists and closely monitors smoke during prescribed fires.
