Ashley National Forest has issued a prescribed fire notice through at least today. Crews are continuing fall prescribed burns in the Flaming Gorge Ranger District between Greendale Junction and Firefighters Memorial Campground. “This prescribed fire is to help remove excess vegetation, reduce wildfire risk, improve habitat, and restore fire-adapted ponderosa pine forests,” shares the announcement. “Smoke may be visible along roadways. Drivers should slow down and turn on headlights. Please do not report these fires, as firefighters will remain on scene throughout ignitions and patrol afterwards. No closures are in place, but the public is asked to avoid the area to not impede firefighters.” The Forest Service is performing prescribed fires through the end of the year, as conditions allow.
