Police Urge Parents to Review Gun Safety With Children

Teaching kids about gun safety is always a good idea and the Craig Police Department is urging families to make it a priority in family discussions. According to Craig PD, there have been multiple incidents lately involving juveniles and firearms. “One incident involved a small child who observed the grip of a handgun in a snowbank and knew not to touch it,” shares Craig Police. “The child notified an adult and a loaded handgun was recovered. A second incident involving [a handgun] was initiated as a harassment call and officers recovered the weapon on one of the subjects involved.” Police discovered that the handgun was not real but it was very realistic and the juvenile possessing it caused a real scare that led to police involvement. Police are hoping to spark conversation between parents and children about gun safety. The NRA urges adults to train children and youth of safety practices. Teach kids that if they come across a gun to always STOP, don’t touch it, leave the area, and tell an adult. For more tips on gun safety from the NRA visit
