Permit Acquired for Community Ponds in Dry Fork Area

The local Division of Wildlife Resources is up to something fishy, in a good way! Plans announced early in 2016 for urban fishing ponds at the mouth of Dry Fork continue to progress. According to Natalie Boren with the Division of Wildlife Resources, the permitting process with the Army Corps of Engineers took longer than expected but plans are moving forward now. The possibility of the project came to life when a landowner offered to donate property for the fish ponds. It’s been proposed the ponds be stocked with a variety of fish with the largest pond possibly having trout.  Funding for the project is coming through the state Division of Wildlife Resources. Utah has over 41 community fisheries and the Basin currently has none. “We hope to make this a really nice place that everyone can enjoy,” shares Boren. “This is what the landowner wanted, a community place safe for everyone including kids, the elderly, and handicap.” A public meeting regarding the ponds is being held
on October 2nd
at the DWR offices in Vernal
at 6pm
. All are invited to come learn more and offer their input
