High School Sexting Case Under Active Investigation in Roosevelt
The Roosevelt Police Department is actively investigating a sexting case that involves a group of Union High School students. According to a Roosevelt City press release, the case was first brought to the attention of law enforcement officers in May and officers are now waiting for the evaluation of evidence from the state crime lab to be complete.
Election Ballots Being Mailed Out This Week
Opportunities continue to present themselves for candidates to share their voice with voters as Primary Election Day approaches. The candidates running for two Uintah County Commission seats spoke at the Vernal Chamber Luncheon on Tuesday including Joni Crane and Bart Haslem who are running for Commission Seat A and Duane Shepherd, Troy Slaugh, and Bill Stringer who are running for Commission Seat B.

Hiking, biking, camping and hunting are all favorite pastimes for Basin residents and are all activities that increase the odds of encountering a rattlesnake. Rattlesnakes are found throughout Utah and two of the eight rattlesnake subspecies are common to the Basin area. While encountering a rattlesnake can be a terrifying experience, the Division of Wildlife Resources reminds people that knowing a little about the animal can go a long way to keeping you safe.
Human Caused ‘Dinosaur Headquarters Fire’ Reported in Dinosaur National Monument
The fire within Dinosaur National Monument that started Sunday evening is contained. According to a release from the National Park Service, a motorist reported a wildfire north of Highway 40 near Dinosaur National Monument headquarters at approximately 6:10pm on June 3rd. The Dinosaur Headquarters Fire was last GPS assessed as 17 acres.
Outlaw Trail Melodrama Part of This Week’s Fair Fun
Once again, Outlaw Trail Theater is bringing the delight of a melodrama to the Uintah County Fair fun. “The Pony Expresso or The Villain Came to a Grinding Halt has more puns than you can shake a spoon at!” shares Outlaw Trail Executive Producer Ron Litton.
3rd Annual Outlaw ATV Jamboree Draws Crowd to Enjoy Basin Trail Rides
The 3rd annual Outlaw ATV Jamboree was an undeniable success with 300 participants and their fancy rides out and about. The fun started on Thursday with trail rides throughout the day. The ATV rodeo was held Friday at the Western Park. Saturday was another day full of rides with the event wrapping up with the Ride by the Lights Night Ride that paraded down Main Street before traversing Asphalt Ridge.
7th Annual Basin Bash Baseball Tournament Provides Major Economic Benefits
Vernal and beyond was bustling over the weekend as events drew visitors from outside the area, filling up hotels and restaurants. The 7th Annual Basin Bash Baseball Tournament hosted 46 teams from Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming with the Uintah 13U team winning the championship in the gold bracket.
Flights Resume and Construction Wrapping Up at Vernal Regional Airport
It’s quite literally onward and upward at the Vernal Regional Airport after several days without flights last week. According to airport manager Doug Brown, the seal coat and permanent paint coat is complete and the runway is now operational.

The Miss Uintah County pageant was a night to remember on Saturday. Savannah Hartle was crowned Miss Uintah County 2018 and Kenadi Colton was crowned Miss Outstanding Teen Uintah County 2018.
