KNEU 1250The beauty of Dinosaur National Monument is the variety of rock formations, wildlife, and of course plants. The monument wants to remind the public that one of the common plants growing throughout the area is poison ivy. Western poison ivy has an oil resin that will cause an allergic reaction that results in an itchy, blistering rash.
Officials have identified the two fishermen missing from their boat on Strawberry Reservoir and as of Sunday evening the search continues. Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office shared Friday that the names of the two missing brothers, who are in their 60’s and 70’s, are James Gardiner and Mark Gardiner, both of Utah County.

A Vernal man is facing multiple charges following an alleged domestic violence situation in which he assaulted his girlfriend and demanded she pick one of her children to kill. 33-year-old Brandon Martin Castillo is facing charges including felony assault, kidnapping, child abuse, and domestic violence in the presence of a child for the events alleged to have happened on July 10th and 11th.
The search for two missing boaters on Strawberry Reservoir has continued as of late Thursday night. According to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, the 9-1-1 call center received a call on Thursday reporting an unoccupied boat that had drifted to shore near the Ladders with the boat motor still running.
The 4th of July was a very busy time for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and they are hoping for the help of Utahns in the joint effort to keep waters free of the zebra and quagga mussels that are infesting the waters. Just like in Utah, anyone planning to go through Wyoming with a boat should plan to clean, drain and dry their boat before they get to the state. Wyoming will have a check station at the Evanston Port of Entry.

Domestic Abuse is not just physical and neither is it obvious. The Uintah/Daggett Children’s Justice Center wants to help the public to identify the different forms of abuse that can be taking place. Sexual abuse is any sexual activity that happens without always current willingness and unimpaired consent. Physical abuse is the intentional use of physical touch to cause fear, injury or to assert control.
In an effort to encourage the public to get out fishing, the Division of Wildlife Resources has identified some locations that are great for first time or new anglers. Not a surprise to locals, two of the three locations in the state are in the Ashley National Forest. Browne Lake is great for the summer because of the cooler higher elevation and the rainbow and brook trout will take any bait or lure.
Roosevelt City is urging community members to be cautious with fire season here. “We had a long, wet winter, which means that the weeds grew really well. But they’re drying out now and that’s a risk,” shares Fire Chief Lee Rockwood. “It’s hot. It’s dry. It’s perfect conditions for a fire.” Roosevelt City shared statistics that 100 fires have been reported in Utah since July 1st, bringing the total for this year to 256 fires, 90 percent of which were human-caused.
The Roosevelt Municipal Airport will be closed starting Monday as major construction gets underway. Through the efforts of Roosevelt City Manager Ryan Snow, Assistant City Manager John Zilles, and Airport Manager Howard Harding, Roosevelt City was able to secure a $9 million dollar grant from the Federal Aviation Administration for the reconstruction of the existing runway and construction of a new parallel taxiway.
