Colorado Parks & Wildlife have provided a new update on the wolves that have been verified in neighboring Moffat County. Back in January, wildlife officers confirmed the presence of a wolf pack and there has been plenty of public discourse on the pack’s presence since then. In this week’s announcement, CPW shares that a member of the public spotted the wolves in Moffat County on Tuesday, March 3rd, “providing a credible sighting report of seven wolves.” Wildlife officials investigated and visually verified six wolves in the reported area the next day on March 4th.
Uintah School District has been focused on service this year and even the youngest students in the District are doing their part. “Even though our students are small, do not count them out,” shares Central Cove team member Monica Fairey.
Amidst dropping oil prices there was low bidder turnout for a BLM oil and gas lease auction for parcels in the Uinta Basin on Tuesday. EnergyNet conducted the online sale of 25 parcels in Uintah County for a total of 32,713.76 acres. A Reuters report provided details on the sale results sharing that the sale drew total bids of $237,559.60 with an average bid of $30 per acre. A 240 acre-parcel received the highest bid at $501 dollars an acre. That parcel sale was protested by Sundog Airport, which Reuters states is within the lease parcel, but the BLM rejected the protest. This report will be updated when the BLM makes more information on Tuesday’s sale available.
A new rule will hopefully be implemented this summer in Utah that will make it easier for people to use graywater systems. What is a graywater system? TriCounty Health Department has the scoop. Graywater is the wastewater generated in a home or business that comes from bathroom sinks, showers, tubs, and washing machines. The average 3 bedroom home generates 250 gallons of graywater each day and a permitted graywater system makes it possible for that wastewater to be repurposed as subsurface irrigation.
The disposition hearing that would have taken place this week in 8th District Court for a Duchesne County man has been rescheduled for next week. 23-year-old Jon David Stewart is charged with 15 counts of 2nd Degree Felony Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation of an image that was identified as Child Pornography on November 27th, 2019.
The Daggett County Commission shared their monthly update on Monday in the March Flaming Gorge Gazette. Daggett County is working on the County Wide Preparedness Plan, involving local agencies and businesses. “We are discussing all the ways we can be prepared in the event of a wildfire,” shares the Commission. “During this process it has come to our attention the need for our private citizens to put our addresses on our homes. Location finders for responders will be a vital part to contribute to the success of response times.”
A delay in updated employment numbers is normal at the front of a new year but Utah’s Department of Workforce Services has now caught up and released all of January’s numbers. Utah’s employment level registered at 1,568,600 and January’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for the state was 2.5 percent, a slight tick up. National unemployment stayed the same at 3.5 percent. “Utah begins 2020 on a solid economic foundation and Utah’s job market remains vibrant,” reports Mark Knold, Chief Economist at the Department of Workforce Services.
It's time to say Yes to the Dress or rather say yes to a Uintah Winter Guard Prom Dress Collection Drive. The Uintah Winter Guard is gathering clean, gently used or new dresses, shoes, as well as suits for an upcoming free Prom dress event. They are also encouraging people to bring whatever accessories they might have to aid in bringing new life and new looks to the selection of dresses. Wendy Girot, the coach of the Uintah Winter Guard, shares that “last year the high school winter guard members had a blast participating with the prom dress drive.”
Ashley Regional Medical Center is offering a local resource for information on Coronavirus preparedness. The hospital has put together a web page to help all stay informed. The page features quicklinks or contact information for CDC, Utah Department of Health and TriCounty Health Department, as well as the Utah Coronavirus Information phone number. It has some helpful hints to prevent and stop the spread of virus. They also remind the people of the Uintah Basin that it is okay to ask those who visit your home if they have washed their hands.
Utah State University Uintah Basin continues its celebration of the Year of the Woman with their event series. The topic for this next event is Self-Empowerment. The night will focus on learning how to become self-empowered, being in a state of mindfulness, and what it means to be involved in self-care. Also taking place that evening is a special screening of “Warrior Women”. This documentary focuses on American Indian Movement activists Madonna Thunder Hawk and her daughter Marcy Gilbert as they fought for civil rights in the 70’s.
