KNEU 1250Recycling is a worthwhile effort but for the time being, Uintah County’s program is unavailable and the community is asked to please stop piling their recycling items at the drop off locations. The local recycling program is run by the Uintah School District’s Can Do Crew. The District announced the program’s temporary closure on April 2nd for the safety of the program staff.
Ashley Regional Medical Center announced on Monday that a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has been appointed for the organization. According to their Monday press release, new CEO Wesley Taylor comes to ARMC from Havasu Regional Medical Center in Lake Havasu City, Arizona where Taylor has served as Chief Operating Officer since 2017.
The Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards announced their final list of nominations for the state awards that will still take place this spring. Shrek the Musical is a finalist for Best Musical and received nominations for Best Set Design, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Technical Crew, and Best Orchestra.
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources wants to remind the public to be aware of the new rules that started in 2020 concerning the collection or possession of reptiles or amphibians. So before you decide to keep a pet while out on a hike, you need to find out if a collection permit or other documentation is required and take the Utah reptile and amphibian orientation course.
The Uintah Animal Control and Shelter Special Service District shared graphic and heartbreaking images on their Facebook page on Monday of baby livestock attacked by unleashed dogs. “Dogs need to stay home and be on leashes at all times but spring is especially important,” shares the District’s message. “Livestock animals are giving birth and dogs love to get the babies.”
As of Sunday, April 12th, TriCounty Health Department is reporting 9 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on their Situational Update page on www.tricountyhealth.com. The report shows 6 in Uintah County and 3 in Duchesne County. Daggett County still reports 0 cases. Estimated tests conducted in the TriCounty area is listed at 374 as of that report.
It was an Easter Sunday to remember and the Vernal Christian Church found a creative way to come together and celebrate while maintaining TriCounty Health Department guidelines. Senior Minister Marty Young delivered his Easter sermon from an outdoor makeshift stage in the church parking lot where the congregation was parked and ready to listen as the services were broadcast live on Newstalk 104.5 FM and AM 920 KVEL.
Dinosaur National Monument is now closed to all monument visitors until further notice. National Parks Service made the announcement on Friday stating that the decision was made due to the novel coronavirus. “Through traffic, but no stopping, will be allowed on roads in the monument that provide access to county roads, residences, leased lands and public lands managed by other agencies,” shares the NPS announcement.
UDOT has announced that they will begin the Gusher Highway 40 project this week. “Work on the project will primarily take place during the day, except the week of April 13th, when most of the operation will take place at night,” shares UDOT. “Starting April 20th, work will shift back to daytime hours.”
The Small Business Bridge Loans offered through the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development(GOED) are continuing and Uintah Basin small businesses and nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply. GOED announced on April 8th that 500 applicants from round one of the applications have been awarded funds and now they are accepting applications for round two.
The recent executive order from Governor Gary Herbert has some kinks in it affecting residents throughout the Uintah Basin and the state is asking for feedback. The order allows a wireless emergency alert to be sent to travelers as they cross state borders in Utah.
Governor Gary Herbert has issued an Executive Order that will require those entering the state of Utah to submit an electronic Self-Declaration Form stating health symptoms and recent travel history. According to information provided by the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, the state will deploy a targeted wireless emergency alert that will be sent to the cell phones of those entering the state on certain highways, including Highway 40 at the Colorado border.
