Uintah High School shared that on Tuesday, May 18th, Uintah High students in the Teaching As A Profession (TAP) program signed letters of intent to become educators. “These 10 young scholars are entering the teaching profession at a critical moment, as enrollment in teacher programs has dropped in recent years, the current teaching force is aging rapidly, and student enrollment is increasing.
The Uintah County Library is always providing unique opportunities for local teens and Mural Day, held May 15th, was certainly that. According to a report in the library’s ‘Novel News’, more than two dozen teens gathered to learn techniques and paint murals under the mentorship of local artists Janet Zeeryp and Isaiah Hoppe Zeeryp.
TriCounty Health Department continues their mission to make available the COVID-19 vaccination to every person in the TriCounty health district that can and wants to get the vaccine. Health Officer Kirk Benge reports that there has been some increase in this corner of the state.

The Utah Department of Wildlife Resources is warning the public that the drought has set up conditions that have decreased the bears food supply and will lead them to find alternate food sources. This means a serious increase in the likelihood of bear encounters.

This year’s theme is “This is EMS: Caring For Our Communities.” Locally, Ashley Regional Medical Center held an EMS/First Responder breakfast on Tuesday while Uintah Basin Healthcare celebrated EMS Week with a Kids Fair at Constitution Park.
It was an exciting day for many as Uintah Basin Healthcare broke ground on the expansion project taking place on their Roosevelt campus. In a Monday press release, Uintah Basin Healthcare provided details on the project: “Our Roosevelt Campus expansion will include a 21,000 square foot 3-story tower to expand South from the hospital’s main entrance,” shares UBH.
The complicated work to repair Starvation Bridge continues and UDOT has shared what the public can expect this week during their travels. “Crews are making progress as they form the new updated parapet wall by pouring concrete over the exposed rebar on the eastbound side of the bridge,” shares UDOT.
Further details have been provided concerning the open Roosevelt City Council position. Roosevelt City shares that Councilman Vince Reiley and his family are moving out of Roosevelt, so his seat will be available. Reiley has approximately 2 ½ years left of his term so the Council will appoint someone to fill his seat from June to December.
