Attacking West Nile by Air
Plans this week to attack West Nile Virus by air come just in time as there have been more positive tests of West Nile Virus in Uintah County mosquito pools. According to TriCounty Health Representative Jeff Robb, 8 more mosquito pools tested positive for the virus since last week’s trapping in Uintah County including one at the golf course, one in south Jensen, four near Pelican Lake and two in Tridell.
LaPoint Man Enters Not Guilty Pleas on New Child Sex Abuse Charges
A LaPoint man pleaded Not Guilty last week to new 1st Degree Felony child sex abuse charges. The charges were filed against 54-year-old Robert Karl Riker for alleged child sex abuse offenses dating from 1999 through 2011.
Having a Safe Archery Hunt
Hunter safety is not just for the youth. The Division of Wildlife Resources is offering safety tips for the upcoming archery hunt that kicks off onAugust 20th. According to DWR Hunter Education Coordinator Kirk Smith, there are reports every year of archery hunters injuring themselves and most accidents are caused by not being safe in tree stands or having arrows out before the hunter is ready to shoot.

Red Fleet Fishery Doing Well
After two nights of electroshocking and gathering data on fish, DWR biologists have good news. The fish stocked in Red Fleet Reservoir this year are doing well. Last October, Red Fleet was treated with rotenone to remove illegal walleye that posed a threat to endangered fish that live below the reservoir.
Resource Management Plan Continues
Area agencies are continuing their work on the development of Resource Management Plans for local counties. Legislation passed last year requires counties to develop and include the Resource Management Plan in their general plans “to be used as a basis for communicating and coordinating with the federal government on land and resource management issues.”
Remodeling at Dinosaur Museum
The Utah Field House has something new for patrons to enjoy. After being closed for several weeks, the outdoor displays of the museum have reopened after being remodeled. “We’re excited to have the garden back open after being closed for three weeks,” shares Field House Park Manager Steve Sroka.
