KNEU 1250A study aimed at measuring the cost of trucking oil from the Basin to refineries is underway as the DC Express Pipeline is explored. $600,000 dollars in grant funding was approved this fall by the Community Impact Board to perform the study that will explore the broader costs than just the fuel it takes to run the trucks.
The Duchesne County building could soon become a smoke free campus. Commissioners considered the change during Monday’s County Commission meeting.
It’s been a great year for tourism so far. According to Uintah County Travel and Tourism Director Lesha Coltharp, tourism at Dinosaur National Monument was up 4.8% in September, by nearly 6% through the summer and up 11% in May compared to last year. Steinaker and Red Fleet State Park are also reporting record numbers this year for visitors both on the lake and in the campgrounds.

There are a few changes to elk hunting in Utah this year. Private-lands-only permits are new in 2016 with the goal of pushing elk off private property and back onto public land for better hunting in the future.
The revitalization of the downtown Vernal Theatre dug up memorabilia of years past that now have a home at the Uintah Heritage Museum. In the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s, the downtown Vernal Theatre was the hot spot every Friday and Saturday night and evidence of that culture were left behind and discovered over the summer as the new Vernal Theatre: Live prepared to open it’s doors.

Roosevelt’s 2016 financial audit was reported on during Tuesday’s City Council meeting. The report reflected a decline in revenue from 2015 and how the City responded.

Thankfully winter hasn’t hit the Basin but that doesn’t mean safety shouldn’t be top priority when traveling. Several passes in nearby Colorado have had winter conditions resulting already in many accidents and even one fatality on Monday morning.
The Division of Wildlife Resources is anticipating a huge crowd for Utah’s general pheasant hunt, opening this weekend. Opening weekend is always busy, shares the DWR, but hunters can still have a good experience by being courteous and respectful to others.
Details of the time 34-year-old James Main, Jr. spent in Colorado after fleeing from Utah have been released and Grand Junction Police say it’s amazing no one was injured on their side of the border.
