KNEU 1250Crews responded to a fire in Uintah County on Tuesday. According to Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond, the fire occurred around 5:30am and crews from Vernal City and Uintah County Fire Departments responded. The structure fire was located at approximately 1000 South 3700 West.
Mother nature joined the Outlaw Trail Theater stage crew for Tuesday’s performance of Singin’ in the Rain, providing scenic lightning in the background for the show’s signature number. Crowds have loved this year’s production of the iconic musical that includes all the dancing and music from the famous movie.
Generous hearts will collide with country fun this Friday at the annual KLIC Fundraiser at Duchesne High School. KLIC stands for Keeping Love in the Community and that is exactly what the charity organization has done for the last 7 years.
A group of local baseball sluggers worked hard to make their dreams a reality over the last year. After a year of skill building and fundraising, the Uintah 12U baseball team traveled to Cooperstown, New York last week for an intense tournament and amazing experience. The team placed 10th overall out of 50 teams from all over the nation.
Proposition 1 is expected to be included on the 2017 election ballot in Uintah County. According to Uintah County Commissioner Duane Shepherd, Naples City and Ballard have both formally submitted their request to the county that Prop 1 be included. Vernal City Council approved their own resolution to request it back in May.
Monday’s public hearing regarding the 2017 Certified Tax Rate for Uintah County offered several perspectives. While majority of the community input received was critical of the county budget, there were also comments from a county perspective.
The bodies of three missing Vernal men are believed to have been recovered from the Green River Wednesday. 29-year-old Jacob Douglas Tilt, 33-year-old Robert Alan Spoon, and 33-year-old Jason Ralph Tilt were reported missing on Friday, May 26th after having last been seen Monday, May 22nd.
There is plenty to learn from the Daggett County Jail scandal and other law agencies are taking note. When asked what Uintah County is doing to prevent similar fiascos, Sheriff Vance Norton first commended Daggett County on being proactive and expressed confidence in the steps they are taking in the aftermath of their situation.
When Lacey Phillips got a look at her son’s carpentry project at UBATC she was immediately interested. Dakota Smuin was taking a Carpentry class from instructor Trent Tomlinson and was among the first of the Uintah High School students to work on the hunting cabin project.
The Mack Shaft Fire east of Bonanza in Uintah County is nearing containment. The fire started on Friday around 5:20pm and is burning on state and private land. SR-21 closed east of Bonanza and Highway 45 was temporarily closed.
The Uintah County Commission meeting was packed on Monday as public comment was taken on the 2017 Certified Tax Rate. The overwhelming feedback from the public was the belief that the Commission should cut the budget and not place further burden on the taxpayers. “These are hard times” was a common statement accompanied by the call for the county to join with business and property owners and cut back in order to make it through.
Locals have rallied behind a worthy cause as the 2nd annual Operation Underground Railroad 5K approaches. The cause of modern day abolitionists is striving to raise at least $2,000 dollars in funds to help save at least one child from the sex trade industry.
