The July 4th weekend is the perfect time of year for fishing mountain lakes in northeastern Utah. The Division of Wildlife Resources reports that water levels should drop by the July 4th weekend and a visit to the backcountry and a cool mountain lake would be the perfect escape from the heat.

Juvenile Rolls Vehicle on Highway 40

Thankfully no one was injured in a rollover accident on Highway 40 Sunday morning after a 13-year old White Rocks boy got behind the wheel in Uintah County. According to Utah Highway Patrol, 35-year-old Sweets Myore asked her nephew to drive a Ford F150 pickup from Vernal to Fort Duchesne to drop the pickup off at her house.

Storm Spotter Training Attracts Newcomers

Every year, National Weather Service hosts storm spotter training in the Basin and newcomers flocked this week for the opportunity to learn. 32 volunteers attended the training in Uintah County taught by National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Pringle.

High Temperatures and Fire Safety

Record heat has hit the west with areas of Nevada hitting 118 degrees and the Basin is feeling the heat as well. The unseasonable high temperatures are due to a strong high pressure over the region, shares National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Pringle.

Smith is the general manager of the Holiday Inn Express who has been in Vernal for 5 years now. Smith is known in the community as a para-triathlete and has been featured this year in media as an inspiration.

Uintah County Sheriff’s Office on Recovered Bodies and Vehicle

The bodies recovered inside a pickup truck from the Green River on Wednesday are believed to be the three Vernal men who went missing on May 22nd. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office issued a release stating that the search for Robert Spoon, Jason Tilt and Jacob Tilt had continued on Wednesday with the search of a targeted area of the Green River in Jensen and that a vehicle matching that of the missing persons was located and pulled from the river at about 11:30am.

Trailer Fire in Uintah County

Crews responded to a fire in Uintah County on Tuesday. According to Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond, the fire occurred around 5:30am and crews from Vernal City and Uintah County Fire Departments responded. The structure fire was located at approximately 1000 South 3700 West.
