KNEU 1250It was another successful year for the annual Breakfast With Santa event in Vernal on Saturday. The event first started 16 years ago and serves as a thank you to the community from Vernal City and the Uintah Recreation District. The first 3 years were held at the Elks Club with live entertainment, door prize drawings and about 300 people attending.
A Duchesne County man charged with raping a child and suspected of faking his own death after being charged is facing an additional charge of Rape of a Child. The latest first degree felony charge was filed on November 9th against 37-year-old Ted Lee Whitehead and lists the offense as having taken place between October 1st and November 30th of 2012 in Uintah County.
The excitement of Christmas came early for the students of Centennial Elementary in Roosevelt. Santa Flight Utah chose the school for their mission this year to brighten the holiday for deserving kids and they arrived in Roosevelt on Friday in style.

The driver of the semi involved in a crash that killed a Duchesne County man and paralyzed a Salt Lake County woman last spring is now facing a charge of automobile homicide. On December 1st, 37-year-old Nathaniel Bone was charged with 2nd degree felony Automobile Homicide, Negligence Use of a Handheld Wireless Device and Misdemeanor Use of a Handheld Device While Driving.
While it can be difficult to stay in touch with the happenings in Washington, D.C. Representative Rob Bishop is making it much easier. Bishop represents District 1 in Utah which include northeastern Utah and he has a history of trying to connect his constituents with national happenings and their local relevance.
UBOC kicked off their 5th season last weekend with a stellar night of Christmas music and entertainment. As Artistic Director and Conductor, Dr. James Bankhead was deeply involved in the concert’s planning and execution, as was his wife Lyn Bankhead who serves as the Master Conductor for the chorus.
Many generous hearts came together to help local charities and families in need during the Trees For Charity event held at the Uintah Conference Center. The auction gala, held on November 27th, was record breaking even before the bidding started up with 450 tickets sold for the dinner, a record high.
The Uintah County Teen Outreach Program has teamed up with TriCounty Health Department to help babies and raise awareness for congenital heart defects. The Teen Outreach Program is in both Uintah and Duchesne County and the youth acquire 20 hours of community service learning.
A new high school in Roosevelt also means major upgrades and additions to the high school sporting facilities. The new facilities will contain the very best stadiums and courts for the Union Cougar athletes. According to Superintendent David Brotherson, this will include a new turf football field, two new identical gyms, and six new tennis courts.
Flames engulfed a semi on Wednesday afternoonon Highway 40 in the Fort Duchesne area. According to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Brett Gehring, a double tanker semi was traveling eastbound at Mile Marker 121 near the light at Fort Duchesne a little after 3:30pm when an axle came off and the back trailer overturned on the highway.
Holiday spirit is filling the shelves at local food pantries this season. Just this week, Roosevelt Junior High and Union High School students delivered a large donation to the Duchesne County Food Pantry.
