KNEU 1250The Uintah County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner held on Saturday at the Uintah Conference Center provided the opportunity to hear from many local and state leaders. It also provided a platform for an impressive local 5th grader who believes in the right and duty to vote.
A team from the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, DCI special agents, and the United States Marshals captured an armed federal fugitive with an extensive history of felony convictions in Rock Springs on Friday.
An accident occurred on Highway 40 near Eagle View Elementary on Tuesday morning when a pickup truck trying to turn east onto Highway 40 pulled out in front of a car. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the car was traveling westbound and the driver of the truck was turning from 2540 West onto the highway when it was hit broadside.
After a great season, Uintah Utes Wrestling competed well at state securing a 2nd place team finish. Uintah had a really good year, shares Coach Gregg Stensgard, winning their Region, Division, and Tournament of Champions. They were also undefeated in Duals. Their 2nd place finish at the state tournament had 12 state placers from the Ute team including two state champions, a runner up, and a lot of wrestlers placing fourth through sixth place.
Bald Eagle events are underway throughout the state. Bald eagles fly to Utah in the winter to find food and escape colder conditions farther north, shares the Division of Wildlife Resources.
In what amounted to a freak accident, an elk downed a helicopter near Currant Creek Reservoir in Wasatch County on Monday around 4:38pm. The crash occurred just over the Duchesne County line and Fruitland EMS was the first to respond. “We had 3 EMTs respond,” explains UBMC EMS Director Von Johnson. “They checked out the pilot and copilot and they were fine.
A grant through the Governor’s Office of Economic Development is helping local businesses to expand. The Rural Fast Track Grant program offers businesses a state reimbursement on expansion projects for up to a $50,000 dollars of matching funds with the expectation that they will hire one new full time employee.
The Union Cougar Wrestling team finished up their season at the state competition in Provo, Saturday, February 10th. The team claimed fourth overall with many wrestlers placing. Brock and Parker Brinkerhoff both earned sixth place in their weight classes. Loni Lutui took fourth in the 285 weight class and Nolan Bullethead took fourth in the 220 weight class.
Among the many items on the radar of local government is state bee regulations and the needs of local beekeepers to protect their interests. The Duchesne County Commission discussed issues facing local beekeepers during their Monday Commission meeting but the topic has been ongoing since last year. “Concerns were brought to us last year by local beekeepers,” shares Commissioner Ron Winterton.
Moonshine Arch has long been a favorite local hike in Uintah County but as it has grown in popularity so has the need for improvements and better signage for tourists. Thankfully, the funding will be coming through the UDOT Small Urban Committee to do just that.
The Utah Department of Transportation Small Urban Committee met on Monday and several projects were approved within Duchesne County. Roosevelt City was approved for a $1.5 million dollar grant for the year 2022.
Duchesne High School kicked off their annual career fair on February 8th. Many different professionals came and talked to the students about many different career options and opportunities. The special guests that were brought in had previously graduated from Duchesne High School. Jared Taylor was an alumni that attended the career fair.
