New service connections have been temporarily suspended in the Ashley Valley Water and Sewer Improvement District. The District issued a press release on March 28th, stating that the Board of Directors passed a resolution to temporarily suspend the issuance of new “will-serve” letters while a water rights study is performed. The water rights study aims to determine if existing water rights are sufficient to provide for new service connections as there has been an increase in new customer requests. The comprehensive study will also explore if additional water rights are needed to keep up with current and anticipated growth. Resolution 2023-03-28 is shared on the home page of www.AVWSID.com. The Resolution states that “the District is no longer entirely confident that its existing water rights can provide sufficient wet water to provide an adequate level of service to new customers without the possibility of adversely impacting existing customers, especially if drought conditions continue in the future.” The suspension is expected to last for 6 months. “This decision was not taken lightly,” shares the announcement, “and was done because the district recognizes its obligation to protect its current customers and to ensure that the current levels of services are maintained.” Questions can be directed to the District at 435-789-9400.
