The new POST law enforcement training in the Basin has certified its first graduating class. 11 cadets graduated from the Peace Officer Standards and Training Academy
on Thursday
at UBATC in Roosevelt. “This is a good show that the local POST Academy is going to be a success,” says POST Academy Director Carlos Reed. “Our cadets’ high scores show that the instructors are fantastic and we had a great group of kids come through.” Reed came out of retirement from a long career in Basin law enforcement to help get the POST program up and going and says a new director will come in by next year to keep it going. “My commitment to the program was to make a blueprint and get POST and the college on the same page so we could start this program successfully,” shares Reed. “Thankfully the college gave us the opportunity to do this and we have had amazing local instructors to make this all happen. I enjoyed working with this group of graduates and we’ve had good placement for them so far.” Special awards presented during
Thursday’s
graduation included the Outstanding Firearms Award to Jason Angus, the Outstanding Physical Fitness Award to Steven Gray and the High Academic Award to Mathias Rieske. Congratulations to all the local 2016 graduates of the POST Academy.
