The Duchesne County Trails Committee provided an update to the Roosevelt City Council last week focusing primarily on the proposed construction of a cross country race course. Duchesne County has submitted an application, with Roosevelt City as its partner, for trails funding totalling $350,000 dollars through the Joint Highway Committee. It was explained during the Trails Committee report that an amount like that will go towards a lot of trail planning and development throughout Duchesne County. If accepted, the funds would be awarded in July of this year. The race course proposed is in an area of several landowners with the main land owner being the Duchesne County School District. The land already has over 4 miles of track constructed and funds would be needed for just one more mile and some general improvements. Once complete the course would meet the requirements for the high school mountain bike rule book for race courses and could enable Roosevelt City to host meets like the Uintah Mountain Biking team did last fall in Uintah County.
