Moon Family Gingerbread Display to Bring ‘Last Kids On Earth’ to Life

The Moon Family Gingerbread Display is a well established Christmas tradition anticipated by the Roosevelt community and beyond and this year is covering exciting new territory. Roosevelt Branch Librarian Stephen Moon and his family are the artists behind the annual display now in its 16th year. Typically, Stephen and his wife Sabrina get started in October by rereading whatever book they are featuring and map out the scenes to be featured in gingerbread glory. This year was different, however, because they let their 7-year-old son Matthew choose the book to be featured. He chose the ‘Last Kids On Earth’ series, the trendy illustrated children’s dystopian fiction series. It took a little extra work to translate Matthew’s vision into a map for the display but once they had a plan everyone knew what to do. 50 batches of dough later and the creation of 7 scenes, including 2 monsters that are their most massive creations to date, and the Moons have done it once again. The ‘Last Kids On Earth’ display will be set up on December 6th and available for public viewing at the Roosevelt Branch Library through the Christmas holiday season. Don’t miss the chance to see Matthew’s vision come to life!
