Moffat County officials are fighting back, reaffirming their status as a 2nd Amendment
Sanctuary County, after Colorado legislature passed Senate Bill 25-003. The Moffat
County Commissioners, in collaboration with Moffat County Sheriff KC Hume, passed
the resolution making clear their 2nd Amendment Sanctuary Status and urging the
Governor to seek alternative approaches to public safety that align with both
constitutional protections and community-based enforcement. “Our position is clear —
we will always stand up for the Constitution and the people we serve,” said
Commissioner Melody Villard. “We believe SB 25-003 is not the answer. Instead of
compromising individual freedoms, let’s work together on practical, rights-respecting
solutions to public safety.” Sheriff KC Hume echoed the concerns, stating, “Our duty is to
uphold both the Constitution and public safety. This bill places law enforcement in a
difficult position and could compromise our ability to maintain community trust while
enforcing the law. We believe there are better solutions that don’t force a choice between
safety and rights.”
