The Lodore Camp Fire that was discovered on July 1st east of the Green River and just south of the Lodore Campground within Dinosaur National Monument is 90% contained as of Wednesday evening. “The fire became established on the east and west sides of the river overnight, but firefighters were able to access and engage both sides of the fire [on Wednesday],” shares the update. “Firefighters worked throughout the day to build the containment line and cool hot spots with aerial support from a Forest Service contract helicopter, which provided water drops. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control multi-mission aircraft was used to get aerial reconnaissance and to map the fire’s perimeter, which was found to be approximately six acres.” It was also announced that some river trips were delayed due to the fire activity and helicopter operations but trips are expected to continue as planned without interruption in coming days. Boaters are also encouraged to stay alert and remember that fire danger is currently high. Updates are being provided at the Dinosaur National Monument Facebook page.
