Children around the world look forward each year to the night Santa Claus will pay them a visit. People in the Basin, however, know a special secret about jolly St. Nicholas…When he’s not up at the North Pole, he enjoys his time living here in the Uintah Basin. Folks have rallied around the best known Santa Clause in the Basin in his pursuit to restore a sleigh for him to use during the holiday season as he attends events and welcomes the whispered wishes of Basin children who take a seat on his knee. The effort began last year when an antique sleigh was found in Heber and the idea was born to restore the sleigh to use in Santa’s portrayal during the Christmas season. Donations came in but not enough to purchase the sleigh so, led by Christmas spirit, St. Nick sold his classic car in order to buy the sleigh and now the effort has shifted to folks fundraising to help him restore the sleigh to its former glory.
