Local law enforcement from multiple jurisdictions were represented during a special meeting at the Utah State Capitol on Wednesday where U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions spoke on Utah’s success with the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative. Sessions praised Utah law enforcement for reducing crime by 8 percent in 2017. “From day one I plainly stated our goals were to reduce crime, reduce homicides, reduce opioid prescriptions, and reduce overdose deaths,” shared Sessions. “I am proud to say that there are signs that we are already achieving all of these goals.” Among the Uintah Basin law enforcement present was Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Brett Gehring, Sgt. Todd Hull, Trooper Nate Mikulich, and Sgt. Kellie Oaks. “We were thrilled to be invited to attend,” shares Sgt. Oaks, “and are grateful for President Trump’s support of law enforcement and the safety of all people in America.” Vernal City Police Sgt. Steve Labrum was also present, sitting on the front row. Labrum somewhat wore two hats at the event as a representative of Vernal City Police Department as well as Uintah County as the incoming Sheriff.
