A local leader’s inspiration has resulted in a new organization advocating for rural Utah. During a legislative trip out to the Utah Capital, Vernal Chamber Director Joel Brown was having a conversation discussing what more could be done to advocate for rural Utah. “One thing that jumped out at both of us was the fact that rural Utah does not have any representation on a Chamber level,” shares Brown. “So we put together a list of Chambers that would potentially want to be a part of a Rural Utah Coalition, where we could meet monthly on Zoom calls, discuss our issues on a local level and then have other Chambers rally behind us in helping with the cause. It was amazing to see that we all have some of the same issues.” Chambers in Cedar City, Richfield, Kane County, UZona (Utah-Arizona Chamber), Tooele, Brigham City, Cache County, Duchesne County, Wasatch Chamber and the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce are all represented. Now as part of the Coalition, these Chambers of Commerce have formed a tight bond focused on fighting for the rural issues that affect rural communities. The group has a trip planned to Washington DC in October.
