The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office and many in the community were devastated last summer when K9 “Q” passed away from a rare form of cancer. Among the very real grieving that followed, came the question of now what? Purchasing and training a new K9 is extremely expensive and the Sheriff’s Office began to explore their options. A community member already known for supporting local law enforcement through events and fundraisers, Elizabeth Mathews got involved as fundraising ideas were explored to get a new canine on the team. In the months that followed, Deputy Tim Adams became the handler of a new K9 recruit named Helix who is now in training as a drug dog. “She’s in training for four months and it is very expensive,” shares Mathews. “The training for just the dog costs around $10,000 dollars and that doesn’t include the handler training, equipment or continuing education.” The Sheriff’s Office is hoping the community will buy tickets for the ‘Whole Pig Raffle with a Freezer’. The proceeds are all going towards the Sheriff’s Office K9 unit. Tickets can be purchased on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page or by calling
