After 8 years of legal battles, a jury has found Duchesne County liable in the 2016 death of 21-year-old Duchesne County Jail inmate Madison Jensen. In December 2022, a judge declared Jana Clyde, the Duchesne County nurse charged in the death of Madison Jensen, Not Guilty of Negligent Homicide. The bench trial with Judge Don Torgerson had taken place in October 2022 in Uintah County’s 8th District Court after the trial in June 2022 ended in the jury deadlocked and the judge calling a mistrial. The judge’s December 2022 ruling emphasized that everyone should have done things differently but none of them perceived the risk of death. The family of Madison Jensen did not feel justice had been served leading to the latest court proceedings in which the jury found Duchesne County liable in the amount of nearly $15 million dollars and Jana Clyde liable $50,000 dollars to pay the Jensen’s estate.
