The CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce,
Derek Miller
, made a special presentation on Tuesday at the Vernal Chamber luncheon about the Inland Port Project in Utah. Miller is the Board Chair of the Inland Port Committee and focused his presentation on why he and supporters of the Inland Port believe it is important for the future of Utahns. “The reason Utah Legislature is involved is because this is something that will impact the entire state including here in the Basin,” shared Miller. He also emphasized that Utah is internationally engaged and that agriculture in rural areas of the state are part of an international business. The port is planned for Salt Lake City and would export goods and products out of Utah. Miller explained that like many innovations through the years, including the interstate system and the Salt Lake International Airport, an Inland Port in Salt Lake will further connect Utah as a crossroads to the world. Of particular interest to the industries of northeastern Utah, communities like Vernal can petition for a satellite inland terminal that would enable commodities, including oil and gas, to ship internationally on location, providing a viable option to expand the markets available to businesses here.
