Ice and Light Snow Helping East Fork/Center Creek Trail Fire

The change in weather has been a help with the East Fork and Center Creek Trail Fires in Duchesne County. According to the latest update on Tuesday, temperatures on the fire have been in the minus column and ice and light snow covered the fire area on Tuesday but there remains smoking areas in the Moon Lake and Hells Canyon areas. Crews have been removing hose and other equipment from the fire area and are working to rehabilitate the fire suppression lines and road repair. While the weather can help it can also pose a hazard with slick roads and a risk of hypothermia if not dressed appropriately. For now there is a total of 133 firefighters assigned with two helicopters, five engines, and two water tenders. The closure of Yellowstone Road that took effect on October 23rd has been lifted while the fire area still remains closed. The road and area closure for the Ashley National Forest that was posted on October 15th remains in effect. Changes will be updated and shared by the Ashley National Forest moving forward. The East Fork Fire began on August 21st 13 miles north of Hanna in Duchesne County. It has reached 89,463 acres and on Tuesday was listed as 70 percent contained. The Center Creek Trail Fire located in the High Uintah Wilderness area began on August 25th and was listed at 1,281 acres and 95 percent contained.
