Winter weather conditions resulted in multiple accidents along Highway 40 early this week, especially on the Colorado side of the border. One incident shut down Highway 40 for over 3 hours on Rabbit Ears Pass. Heavy snowfall created dangerous winter conditions on the roadway and around 2:00pm on Tuesday one accident resulted in a jackknifed semi creating a blockade across Highway 40. Both lanes of traffic were shut down until about 5:30pm though traffic was slowly able to pass on one shoulder. Tuesday’s storm included icy conditions, blowing snow and high winds.
