There has been many fires in the High Uinta wilderness area with continued activity over the weekend. The Center Creek Trail fire has increased by 35 acres to 80 acres moving in a North and East movement. This has led to a closure order for the Yellowstone Trail from the junction with the Swift Creek Trail to the Trail 058 junction. The East Fork Fire was holding at 2,842 acres and was 18% contained before the Sunday winds and low humidity saw some more activity. There was also a fire caused by a lightning strike in the closure area that was reported on August 25th. The Phinney Lake Fire is about a mile due west of Explorer Peak and firefighters saw active fire behaviour and growth. Anyone planning to spend time in the High Uintas Wilderness should check on all closures and fire reports.
